Resolution Health members to get treatment in India

Medical underwriter Resolution Insurance Group has signed a deal with five Indian hospitals that will see Kenyans access specialised treatment including organ transplants abroad.

The deal was signed on Saturday between Resolution Health, Max Healthcare, Apollo Group, Artemis Hospitals, Fortis Healthcare and BLK Hospital.

The partnership will provide Resolution Insurance members with direct access to an array of advanced care including cancer, cardiac and orthopedic treatment.

“Due to the unpredictable nature of illnesses it is important for Kenyans to embrace medical covers that will see them benefit from technologically-advanced, financially-friendly and well equipped treatment services both locally and internationally,” said Resolution Insurance Group chief executive, Peter Nduati.

“Preventive rather than reactionary measures should be adopted to ensure families maintain financial stability in the unfortunate occurrence of a long-term illness.”

The partnership comes at a time when an increasing number of Kenyans are travelling abroad, especially to India for treatment.

The government loses about Sh11 billion a year in revenue through Kenyans going abroad for more experienced specialists and advanced medical equipment.

Ministry of Health data shows that a total 116 patients from the country travelled to India for medical treatment between January and March 2017. 

The ministry report says treatment in India is highly rated globally and is more affordable compared to similar services in Europe or America.

To mark the beginning of the new partnership, leading cardiologist, Dr Sanjeev Gera, weight loss and surgical gastroenterologist, Dr Ravindra Vats, and joint replacement and arthroscopic surgeon, Dr Anuj Malhotra, all from partner BLK Hospital in New Delhi, India held their first disease diagnostic camp over the weekend in Nairobi.
