Safaricom’s #ticker:SCOM Blaze programme has given out Sh2.9 million to support small-scale businesses owned by enterprising youth to grow.

The funds will help small business in kick-starting their operations, said the telco’s consumer business director Sylvia Mulinge during the company’s “Be Your Own Boss (BYOB)” regional summit held at the Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday.

“So far over 30,000 young people have turned out for the previous five summits and we are also glad to have given out Sh2.9 million worth of business support to deserving ventures that have demonstrated potential to grow.

“It’s motivating to see the great innovative young minds we have in Kenya,” said Ms Mulinge.

She added that the show, which targets two million users on the platform by the end of the six regional summits, now has over one million youth signed up.

“In a couple of two weeks following Nairobi Summit, we are certain to hit the two million mark.”

Blaze targets the fast-growing age group of 18 to 26 years, offering them access to a specialised platform which includes custom-made tariffs.

Through the BYOB platform participants get opportunities to have one-on-one sessions with key speakers and peer influencers as well as network with like-minded youth.

The second season of the Blaze BYOB TV show is set for next year.
