Mr Marende, who was appointed the utility firm's chairman in January 2015, retired this year and put himself up for re-election to fill one of three vacant board seats.
However, during the December 1 AGM, he was edged out by three other people who each earned at least 970 million votes against the former Speaker’s 2.3 million votes.
Adil Khawaja, an advocate, was re-elected to the board while Zipporah Jesang Kering and Ambassador Mahboub Maalim Mohamed were the new entrants to the power distributor's board.
While serving as Kenya Power chairman, Mr Marende earned a salary of Sh255,000 per month or an annual take-home of Sh3.07 million.
This was a far cry from what he earned while in parliament (up to Sh1.32 million a month) when he served as Speaker between 2008 and 2013.
