Customers of pay-TV firm StarTimes will be upgraded to upper bouquets upon renewal of monthly subscriptions in an ambitious two-and-a-half-month strategy to retain customers in an increasingly competitive market.
The automatic upgrade starts Friday and comes at no extra cost and affects customers on both terrestrial and satellite television platforms.
Subscribers on the Nyota bouquet will access ‘Basic’ bouquet while those on the ‘Basic’ one will be upgraded to the ‘Classic’ bouquet. Those enrolling for ‘Unique’ bouquet will enjoy ten extra days for free.
The promotion kicks off on November 10 to January 31.
“We have introduced this initiative to enable our subscribers to access more premium channels at no extra cost thereby extending more value for less,” said Japhet Akhulia, StarTimes director of marketing.
Upon enrolling to the ‘Smart’ bouquet, subscribers on the satellite TV platform will be upgraded to ‘Super’ bouquet.
Aside from the bouquet upgrades, StarTimes has extended a 25 per cent and 10 per cent price drop for its terrestrial and satellite set-top boxes, respectively.
As a result of the discount, the terrestrial pay-TV set-top boxes will retail at Sh1,499 down from Sh1,999 inclusive of one-month Classic bouquet subscription.
The satellite Combo will retail at Sh1,599 down from Sh1,999 inclusive one-month super bouquet subscription. StarTimes has also cut the price of its 32-inch set from Sh26,499 to Sh23,999.
Customers acquiring the 42-inch set will get it at Sh39,999 and also get a complete dish kit, accessories, and access to a free one-month super bouquet.
In June, the firm announced an expansion of its services to Kitui, Garissa, Kapenguria, Embu, Laikipia and Trans-Nzoia, targeting rural Kenya.
After the extension, the firm now reaches 33 counties where viewers can use StarTimes set-top boxes to watch television.
