Student innovators pitching ideas to Clinton-backed fund

Innovators from local universities have begun presenting their pitches for the Hult Prize, a Bill Clinton-backed fund and global start-up accelerator for social enterprises that solve daily challenges.

Universities across the country are holding their last on-campus competition ahead of the national edition that will short-list innovations that will represent the country during the finals scheduled for September next year in New York.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat), for instance, will hold its last competition this Saturday in Juja.

The Jkuat team will pitch their idea during the afternoon session to a panel of judges who include Iman Cooper of BuuPass (formerly Magic Bus Ticketing app) a local start-up which won $1 million (Sh103 million) in the 2016 Hult Prize.

The Hult Prize 2018 is looking for enterprises that can harness power of energy to transform lives of 10 million people by 2025. Local innovators are hoping to bag the coveted prize.
