UK’s Azuri Technologies has announced plans to connect 300 off-grid Kenyan homes to solar system during the festive season.
The Sh5 million partnership involving Azuri , its distributors Raj Ushanga House and Young Jains, Nairobi will see 2,000 households in Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi and Narok counties benefit from this deal.
The progressive roll-out will see each of the 300 households receive a solar panel, two LED bulbs, two switches and USB charging cables designed to operate in extreme conditions.
Azuri’s general manager, East Africa, Snehar Shah, said this was in line with kickstarting power uptake in rural markets and creating opportunities through solar and mobile innovations.
“As we upgrade to more innovative products, there is a need to incentivise adoption of solar off-grid lighting for households still on kerosene while building new markets,” said Mr Snehar.
“... we see these solar kits diminishing the energy insufficiency gap in the communities we will be targeting, creating impact to the areas of entrepreneurship, agriculture, education, health, safety and job creation which will create market for upgraded products.”
