What you need to know:

  • It is important to note that your productivity is not defined by the number of hours and days you spend in the business.
  • As an entrepreneur who is paid through problem-solving and innovation, you can innovate and solve problems more precisely and in shorter time if you are well rested and relaxed.
  • When we work continuously day in day out without a break we get fatigued, burnout and become unproductive.
  • A holiday could help you to return to work revitalised and refocused.

A holiday is a terminology that is not common to many small and medium entrepreneurs. Apparently majority of them feel they are too busy handling day to day operations or things will go wrong if they are away from business for more than a few days.

However, taking a break from the business has several benefits both to the entrepreneurs and the enterprise itself. First taking a leave and going on holiday helps you to recharge physically and emotionally.

When we work continuously day in day out without a break we get fatigued, burnout and become unproductive. A holiday could help you to return to work revitalised and refocused.

If you have never been sick or forced by nasty circumstances to be out of your business long weeks, you may easily deceive yourself that nothing will go on in your absence.

Taking leave helps you appreciate that things will go on well, sometimes better in your absence. It will help you appreciate your employees, delegate and more important put a chain-of-command in place so that you are not always required for decision-making and smooth operations.

A holiday is a time of relaxation that infuses clarity on your priorities and goals.

Holiday is a time to realign and reconnect to your family. A well planned holiday can bring the whole family together in an environment where there are no intrusions and pressures of time to bond, discuss and share matters dear to their hearts.

To have a successful holiday first accept that there is never a good time for holiday. Demands and business pressures will always be there. Take a bold step and book holiday at the convenience of your family rather than of business. Don’t wait when there is no work in the business.

Secondly, accept that holiday is an investment. You are investing in you and you will get handsome returns. Taking care of your life is as important as taking care of your business, if not more.

When you go for holiday don’t go with your office. Delegate everything and divert all business calls and emails to your able employees. Don’t get updates or reports from the business unless it is a matter of life and death.
