Primary school completion rate has increased from 78.4 per cent in 2004 to 83.5 per cent in 2016.
This is attributed to the introduction of free primary education in 2003.
Primary to secondary transition rate has also increased from 56 per cent in 2004 to 81.3 per cent in 2016.
The government provide free public schooling up to standard eight. For secondary education, the government pays Sh12,870 for each learner a year, while parents are required to pay Sh53,554 and Sh9,374 for boarding and day schools respectively.
Some learners drop out after standard eight, making the primary-secondary transition rate lower than the primary school completion rate.
