MPs told to clear with Parliament after term ends

All MPs have been directed to hand over office property and other dues to ensure that services for the 11th Parliament have appropriately been discontinued.

There are 349 members of the National Assembly and 67 Senators.

“This form is issued to certify that all office property and other dues have been returned and rights to access property or services have been appropriately been discontinued,” the clearance form which Senators and MPs are required to fill reads in part.

The MPs are being asked to surrender offices keys, laptops and IT accessories and chamber access cards.

They also have to clear with the Human Resources department any outstanding salary advances and medical expenses reimbursed. They have to clear payments for lunch, teas and snacks taken during their tenure in the House.

In the finance department, the MPs have been directed to clear any outstanding imprests, mortgage, car loans, calculators, office stationary and surrender letter heads.

The clearance will set the stage for release of their dues. The MPs are entitled to gratuity payments or end of term retirement pay of Sh2.8 billion, guaranteeing each of the 418 members of the National Assembly, including women representatives and senators, about Sh6.6 million.

The MPs and their aides are shuttling from one office to the other to surrender equipment they received during their time in the House.

In the library department, the members are returning books or cards borrowed while at the County and Constituency offices they are required to file the financial returns for the last quarter of the year in office.

They have been directed to also file returns for furniture and equipment. At the health club, they have to clear any outstanding subscription fee.

The MPs also have to return passes handed to their personal assistants, drivers and bodyguards. The officers attached to MPs have also been directed to surrender their badges and car security stickers.
