Since the launch on June 1, two Madaraka Express trains have been departing at 9am daily from Nairobi and Mombasa.
Passengers planning to travel from Nairobi to the coastal city of Mombasa and back on August 8 will not enjoy the services of Madaraka Express train.

“We shall have the first schedule interruption on the service on August 8, 2017 due to the national elections.
“It is imperative that staff and service providers of the Madaraka Express exercise their democratic voting rights,” said Kenya Railway Managing Director Atanas Maina.
The hotly contested August 8 polls brings together a total of 16,259 Kenyans competing for 1,882 positions. The 2017 candidate count is an increase of 3,483 from the 12,776 that expressed interest in the various seats in the March 4, 2013 elections.

The Madaraka Express trains have become popular with passengers due to low promotional prices and smooth rides.
