The National Assembly last evening inched closer to ending the paralysis of House business after opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) forwarded names of its members to two crucial committees that will help to place the 349 members on various teams.

Nasa frustrated House business from August 30 after it dewhipped or barred its MPs from House business and committee proceedings until after the repeat presidential election that took place on October 26 without the participation of its leader Raila Odinga.

The action forced Jubilee to adjourn proceedings until the two petitions challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s October 26 win and his subsequent swearing-in on November 28.

Nasa, which last week named its leadership in the National Assembly led by Minority Leader John Mbadi, has named seven members to join 12 Jubilee MPs who will sit in the Committee on Selection.

The committee is chaired by Leader of Majority Aden Duale and has the mandate of placing members on the various House committees. There are 28 committees in the National Assembly.

Nasa named MPs Junet Mohammed (Minority Chief Whip), Florence Mutua, Nicholas Tindi Mwale, Makali Mulu, Owen Baya, Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim and Catherine Wambilianga to sit on the Committee on Selection.

They join Jubilee’s Jimmy Angwenyi, Benjamin Washiali (Majority Chief Whip), Jude Njomo, Beatrice  Nyaga, Khatib Mwashetani, Faith Gitau, David Pkosing, David Ole Sankok, William Chepkut, Gladwell Cheruiyot, John Kiarie and William Kisang.
