Former TNA secretary-general Onyango Oloo was voted in as Speaker for Kisumu County on the day that former nominated senator Beatrice Elachi took control of Nairobi county assembly.

Mr Oloo got 32 votes against his closest rival, lawyer Kenneth Omondi, who got 11 votes while the incumbent Anne Adul came a distant third with five votes.

Mr Oloo was among six candidates for the seat. Lawyers Jared Sala, Mrs Cynthia Osiro and Owino Omollo got no votes.

Mr Oloo, who decamped from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party, lost to Mr Fred Ouda in the race for Kisumu Central parliamentary seat.

Ms Elachi, on the other hand, got 90 votes with her closest rival Ali Abdi getting 27 votes.

In Busia, Mr Bernard Wamalwa retained his seat as Assembly speaker in round one of voting while in Vihiga, Ms Hasna Mudeizi, a candidate endorsed by the National Super Alliance (Nasa) was elected Speaker in a hotly contested race that went into the second round of voting.
