A special committee that will scrutinise Supplementary Budget for the fresh presidential election will be formed Thursday even as the opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) opposed the naming of 12 Jubilee members to the team.

The formation is a stop- gap measure for Parliament to process the mini-budget and necessary Bills given that the House has not constituted substantive Budget and Appropriations Committee whose mandate is to scrutinise the expenditure plan as well as any Bills with implication to the taxpayer’s coffers.

Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa said the ad hoc committee must include both Jubilee and Nasa MPs.

“Looking at the list presented by Leader of Majority (Aden Duale), the composition is all from Jubilee Party and the Minority party is not represented.  Supplementary Budget is critical and Minority party must be involved in the committee for checks and balances purposes,” said Mr Wamalwa.

The Treasury Wednesday tabled a mini budget seeking MPs approval for reallocation of the main budget to accommodate costs associated with the October 26 elections.
