A suspected car thief surrendered to Bungoma police on Monday after he was attacked by a swarm of bees. The middle-aged Ugandan, identified as Francis Sikadigu, dashed to the local police station after the bee stings became unbearable. Journalists found him at the police station groaning in pain.
He abandoned the car at the gate to the Bungoma County Assembly and sought refuge at the police station.
Bungoma police boss David Kirui said that they were holding the suspect and that he would be charged in court once investigations are over.
“We want the owner of the vehicle to help us get to the bottom of this incident,” he said.
The car owner, John Wafula, who is a car hire dealer in Bungoma town, said that after reporting the theft to the police he had sought the services of a local witchdoctor to recover his vehicle.
“I thank God my vehicle has been found and the thief is in police custody. I want him to be charged in court,” he said.
