TSC suspends promotion for administrative roles

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has suspended promotions for teachers in administrative positions to pave the way for implementation of new guidelines on competitive recruitment.

Chief executive officer Nancy Macharia in a circular to all TSC county directors said those affected by the suspension are curriculum support officers, heads of institutions (principals and head teachers).
Others are deputy principals, deputy head teachers, senior teachers and senior masters.

Mrs Macharia said the move has been made because the commission is implementing job evaluation report for the teaching service together with the concluded 2017-2021 collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) with effect from July 1 this year.

“One of the major changes adopted by the Commission following the job evaluation is the substantive appointment of institutional administrators and curriculum support officers,” said Mrs Macharia.

“To facilitate the implementation of its policy on appointment of institutional administrators and curriculum support officers, the Commission has resolved that data on all respective vacant positions be submitted to the Commission Secretary who shall, thereafter, issue guidelines for appointments.”

Mrs Macharia said data on all available vacancies for institutional administrators and curriculum support officers be submitted to her on or before July 31.

She said any appointments made outside the set guidelines are irregular and will not be honoured by the Commission.
