Clinical officers have called off their nationwide strike after reaching a deal with the national and county governments to give room for negotiations.

The Health ministry and the Council of Governors (CoG) have in the deal agreed to engage the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to review the workers’ job grading and evaluation,  which triggered the 20 days strike.

“We are not going back to work because we are happy, we are suffering as we contest the “semi-skilled” categorisation by the SRC,” said Kenya Union of Clinical Officers general-secretary, George Gibore.

“The strike is called off in the 60 days as we seek to have many of our grievances changed in a collective bargaining agreement.”

He said the union would move to court if their recognition agreements with the 47 counties, proper job grading, promotions are not met within the agreed period.

The deal comes as the nurses’ strike enters day 117 today as many Kenyans continue to suffer as about 50 to 80 per cent of the public health facilities remain closed, according to the United Nations.
