The University of Nairobi has revoked the degree it awarded to Meru Senator Mithika Linturi for presenting fake papers to get admission.

The university’s Senate sat and resolved to de-register the Bachelor of Commerce award on Thursday morning.

Sources at the university said the revocation followed an elaborate and in-depth investigation that UoN did jointly with the Commission for University Education (CUE).

Mr Linturi was among 106 leaders the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) flagged as having integrity issues on a list it presented to the IEBC in June.

The EACC wanted the IEBC to block Mr Linturi from running for the Meru seat but he took the fight to the High Court and got a reprieve.

But on June 30, the Senator lost his bid to stop the EACC from summoning him over alleged false self-declaration forms he submitted to the commission in 2013.
