Plenty of street-style fashion lovers are embracing the cape. Capes are more elegant than the ponchos and in Kenya, they gained fame after First Lady Margaret Kenyatta wore it.

Diana Tadjuideen, a Paris-born model who founded a clothing line and whose clothes are worn locally is one of the designers who has embraced the cape which became trendy globally after a runway show in UK, last year.

Diana says the short cape, named Vanessa, is one of her best-sellers. It is a cotton cape with jacquard fabric details.

One size fits all and it can be handwashed. What makes the cape a must-have is because it is light, but also keeps you warm. It is very trendy and is perfect for layering.

You can wear something basic underneath and just put it on and look trendy that’s what makes it special.

‘‘You can pair the cape with basic black jeans, a tee and trainers for a casual trendy look. You can also wear it over a beautiful dress to keep you warm. You can wear almost anything underneath and the cape will instantly make an outfit look chic. You can be creative as you want with a cape,’’ she says.

How she started

She makes short and long capes, ones with arm slits and ones without which are made from blended wool, cashmere or thick cotton.

Diana who designs from jump suits, classic shawls, ponchos to lace dresses says her target is the international woman who is passionate about travel, career and family yet loves Parisian sophistication.

After modelling for various international brands from a very young age, Diana created DIANE to showcase her vision of the modern working women.

Every DIANE piece comes from an intimate process which begins in Paris, where luxury fabrics are carefully handpicked from various top houses ensuring timeless luxury in every garment.

Once selected, the fabrics are sent to Poland where an internal manufacturing process takes place to create classic effortless designs for everyday glamour.

Colours and prints

“I was born and raised in France so there is a consistent touch of Parisian flair seen throughout my brand and collections. Paris has a discreet and confident sophistication, and never compromises on quality and style,” she says.

She is inspired by designers like Chanel, Alexander Wang and Isabel Marrant.

‘‘I ’m inspired by everything from their design process to their aesthetic,” she says.

This year, she is focusing on trendy prints and classic plain colours.

“I love mixing classic colours with fashionable prints. We don’t follow trends, we love to be classic and timeless. We remain classic with a twist,” she says.
