A fruit is a necessary portion to any meal and can be served in different ways, either as dessert or as part of the cocktail. It  is easy and fun to experiment with different ingredients.

Soaking your fruits in alcohol not only gives them a tangy flavour but also helps in the preservation. But it should be done in moderation so as not to overpower the flavour of the fruits.

You can use chopped fruits or whole ones, although the latter tend to soak in more alcohol than diced fruits.

The alcohol should not cover the fruits, instead use a spoon to coat them and a prick stick to ensure it soaks into large pieces.

Fruits with high water content such as watermelons and pineapples can be injected with alcohol of your choice including vodka and whiskey and left to soak up the spirit in the fridge.

To get the best results for a watermelon, use a sterile kitchen gadget to inject vodka into the fruit at several points and leave it overnight in the fridge.

When it is time to serve, cut the fruit up into pieces and let your guests enjoy. Remember not to overdo the alcohol as this may not please some guests. Also warn them of the alcohol content.

This can make an interesting finish to a sophisticated dinner  or lunch during this festive period.
