NIC Bank has partnered with Edmund Trust Kenya to support five talented students through their four years of secondary school.

Edmund Trust is a Christian funded organisation which supports people with learning disabilities. NIC Bank, which has been supporting the initiative for nine years, has donated Sh450,000 to support the students.

“As a bank we strongly believe in investing in our youth. This is an investment in the future and we are happy with this opportunity to develop tomorrow’s leaders,” said NIC Bank MD John Gachora.

The bank plans to support Palmhouse Foundation by sponsoring 15 students through their four years of secondary school. The Palmhouse Foundation provides bright and talented children from poor families scholarships.

The bank began supporting the foundation in 2008. The sponsorship has grown over the years with the current annual sponsorship standing at Sh1.8m. Another charitable organisation that NIC Bank has worked closely with is the Dr Choskey Albinism Foundation.

The foundation — whose mission is to improve the quality of life of poor children living with albinism — is run by Dr Prahba Choskey, a leading Kenyan ophthalmologist.

The bank will support 25 students this year. “With the rise of unemployment there is a need for persons with disability to have access to opportunities that will empower them,” said Mr Gachora.
