The Rosslyn Riviera Mall, a development associated with the Gethi family, has attracted a mix of local and international brands ahead of opening in mid-2016, its promoter Knight Frank says.
Chandarana Supermarkets will be the anchor tenant at the mall near Village Market in Nairobi.
Coffe Nove, German Point, News Café Cape Foods, Aristocrats Forex Bureau, Healthy U, jewellers Gemessence Ltd, Spot On Entertainment, Liquor City, Mimosa Pharmacy, Micos Ltd, Thola Glass and RAGS Ltd are some of the brands that have booked space at the mall.
Construction of the Rosslyn Riviera Mall began in late 2014 and will cost $27 million (Sh2.7 billion). The mall is being developed by Thaara Ltd associated with Peter Gethi, a businessman with interests in the real estate sector and a son of the late police boss Ben Gethi.
The property managers say the mall’s developers (Thaara Limited) are targeting consumers in the Rosslyn, Runda, Gigiri, Ruaka, Redhill and Muthaiga suburbs by attracting high-end brands as tenants.
“The growing appetite for retail space by local and international brands is what is driving investments in new malls and indicates the growing consumer purchasing power,” said Mwihoti M’Mbijjewe, the head of marketing at Knight Frank.
The mall is also located close to Centum Investments Two Rivers mixed development which will house the largest mall in the region on completion.
Other property managers say that there is also interest in Rosslyn because of high-end houses due to the area’s proximity to the CBD, Westlands and the Diplomatic blue zone. The suburb is also not densely packed with apartment blocks.
“In Nairobi today, town houses are fast becoming an enticing option for people looking to buy homes. With the upsurge of apartments across the city, potential and existing home owners are now looking for better options that offer much needed privacy as well as security. It is near Westlands and the CBD,” said Homes Universal chief executive Daniel Ojijo in a previous interview.
