KenGen highest traded stock at Nairobi bourse

Power generator KenGen was the highest traded stock at the NSE yesterday, moving 10.16 million shares in local investor-led trades.

The share closed at an unchanged Sh6.55 apiece, indicating cross trades between investors.

There was also significant activity in the stocks of Safaricom, Equity Bank and Cooperative Bank, which also had flat prices.

Safaricom traded 9.9 million shares at an unchanged Sh18 a share, while Equity was flat at Sh27 with 6.5 million shares traded yesterday.

Cooperative Bank moved 2.3 million shares, with its price going up marginally at 0.4 per cent, from Sh11.95 to Sh12.

As a result of the higher trading on the four firms, overall market turnover rose to Sh579 million from the previous session’s Sh309 million, while the number of shares traded stood at 34 million against 16 million posted on Monday.

The NSE 20 share index gained 19 points during the day to stand at 2,964, snapping two session slide.

The index has failed to break the 3,000 points mark since the second week of January, but was buoyed yesterday by gains on blue-chip counters such as Standard Chartered Bank, up Sh8 to Sh199, Nation Media Group, which was up by Sh1 to Sh84.50 and BAT Kenya, which gained Sh4 to Sh909.
