The National Oil Corporation of Kenya (National Oil) has invited bids from local and global firms for provision of onshore drilling operations, signalling intention to step up hunt for oil and gas in its blocks.
The corporation said the successful firm would partner with it to set up onshore drilling operations.
“The National Oil Corporation of Kenya invites expression of interest from eligible candidates from Kenya and/or international for provision of onshore drilling operations,” said a notice in the local dailies.
“The objective of this Expression of Interest is to yield a competent firm to partner with National Oil in setting up onshore drilling operations.”
National Oil is among the few African state oil companies directly involved in the search for oil and gas.
The firm began operations in 1984 and its strategic mandate is to play a price stabilising role and arrest any cartel-like behaviour by private marketers.
National Oil operates its own exploration acreage on block 14T located within the Tertiary Rift basin and running from the shores of Lake Bogoria down to Lake Magadi Basin on the border of Kenya and Tanzania.
