The Actuarial Society of Kenya (Task) has published a code of conduct for its members.

Task has called upon its members to uphold the credibility of the profession as a way of bolstering confidence in the industry, especially in the insurance sector.

“We are leading the way in promoting professionalism in the actuarial profession and beyond. I am proud of how Task is promoting best practices among its member and of the oversight it provides,” said Task president James Olubayi.

Mr Olubayi was speaking during a two-day workshop on ethics and professionalism organised by Task and the International Actuarial Association (IAA) in Nairobi last week.

Task challenged other industry bodies, regulators and businesses to join the debate on professionalism.

The society wants to see more engagements on sharing best practices, and believes that collaboration is key to maintaining high standards.

Task said consistent focus on transforming the actuarial profession in the country is beginning to bear fruit, with the number of qualified members expected to rise rapidly.

Task has 46 members. All qualified actuaries in the East African market are Kenyans.

To qualify, an actuarial science graduate has to successfully complete a series of professional papers from IAA affiliated bodies.
