Don’t hurt return to normal business, investors appeal

Manufacturers and major retailers Thursday joined passenger service vehicle owners in urging politicians to promote peace to reignite economic activity.

A lobby bringing together the business community, Mkenya Daima Initiative, cautioned winners and losers in the just concluded elections against issuing alarming statements that could hurt a return to normalcy and overall economy.

“Politicians and leaders across the political divide must be careful with their public utterances in this politically charged atmosphere. The media must exercise utmost professionalism in their delivery of information, by ensuring all news published is factual, accurate and devoid of sensationalism,” they said.

The statement delivered at Bomas of Kenya and read by initiative chairman Vimal Shah urged the IEBC to fast-track probe into hacking claims made by Nasa to restore integrity of electoral results.

All independent electoral observers should also publicise their findings, the lobby said, urging Kenyans to verify social media posts.

“Social media posts must be verified for authenticity and Kenyans should avoid fuelling conversations that may trigger violence and division.” Kenyans voted on August 8.
