Real estate firm Avic International is spending Sh40.5 billion to put up its 30-floor Africa headquarters in Nairobi.

Avic chief executive officer Su Tianshu said the complex located in Westlands, Nairobi, will accommodate offices, luxury apartments and a five-star hotel.

Speaking during the launch of the fourth Africa Tech Challenge, Mr Tianshu said Avic had enrolled 100 interns in the civil engineering field who will be absorbed upon graduation.

The interns, currently undertaking technical courses at tertiary and local universities will learn specialised skills in carpentry, masonry and steelwork.

Vocational Technical Training PS Dr Dinah Mwinzi said the collaboration will be expanded to all technical institutes as Avic had pledged to donate mechanical and engineering equipment to all technical institutes.

Spare parts

Dr Mwinzi said two local institutes had been enrolled in the ongoing industrial production of spare parts for export to China.

Currently, Kabete and Nyeri Technical Institutes have participated in the programme that has been expanded to include Kenya and Rift Valley Technical Training Institutes where each will manufacture motor spare parts worth Sh10 million for export to China.
