This follows a complaint by the public that traders were selling the subsidised maize flour at exaggerated prices.
Ms Esther Siamin, a resident, told the Business Daily that she was forced to buy three packets of wheat flour in order to get a packet of maize flour from a shop.
Police in Malindi have arrested four traders found selling Sh90 subsidised maize flour at Sh120 following a crackdown on controlling the flour price.
Malindi Police boss Matawa Muchangi said detectives disguised as customers arrested the traders at around 6am in their shops.
“The four who were arrested separately were arrested after selling 2 kilogrammes of Taifa maize flour to detectives,” he said adding that “this despite the product being branded with a price of Sh90.”
Mr Muchangi said the suspects, identified as Mr Ali Hassan, Mr Maurice Mureithi, Mr Joyce Bula and Mr Silas Muema will be taken to court and charged with an offence under the Price Control Act of 2011.
“The crackdown on traders selling the subsidised maize flour at an exaggerated price will proceed and those arrested taken to court,” he added.
