A crisis is looming at Nzoia Sugar Company after a section of local leaders rejected the appointment of a new managing director over claims of incompetence. The Jubilee affiliated leaders overruled the appointment of Mr John Asega arguing that he was allied to the opposition.

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Bumula MP Boniface Otsiula and Woman Rep Reginalda Wanyonyi are among leaders who denounced the appointment of Mr Asega.

Mr Lusaka blamed board chairman Joash Wamang’oli and some Opposition leaders of being behind the appointment.

He asked Agriculture CS Willy Bett to revoke the appointment.

“Let the acting MD Mr Michael Kulundu steer the factory to greater heights after the suspension of MD Godfrey Wanyonyi over corrupt dealings,” posed Mr Lusaka. Ms Wanyonyi and Mr Otsiula called on Mr Bett to sack Mr Wamang’oli.

“Mr Wamang’oli has messed up the company, how did he single-handedly make a decision to bring in a new MD without consulting board members or elected leaders?” posed Ms Wanyonyi.
