Retired President Daniel arap Moi has backed United States International University Africa’s (USIU-A) bid for compensation in a case in which it has been established that its purchase of a controversial piece of land in Nairobi was fraudulent.

Mr Moi has in his court papers supported the inclusion of law firms Ndung’u Njoroge & Kwach Advocates, and Paul Ndiritu Ndung’u as sought by USIU-A in the land suit.

The university wants to be compensated should the lawyers be found to have shepherded a fraudulent land deal, causing it loss of Sh90 million.

“Their presence is therefore necessary for the determination of all questions before the court,” says Mr Moi in court papers.

The university is also seeking compensation from ICEA Lion. Equity Bank boss James Mwangi and US-based businessman George Kiongera also lay claim to the land.
