Tanzania state-owned power firm's headquarter building in Dar es Salaam will be demolished after a month to pave way for road expansion.

The country's roads agency, Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads), revealed this on Thursday, when contacted by The Citizen

“Today, we will put an X mark on the building ahead of the demolition, which will likely begin after one month and the demolition will be proceeded by a notice of intention to demolish,” Tanroads regional manager Julius Ndyamukama explained.

Magufuli order

The move to pull down the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) building followed Wednesday's order by President John Magufuli, to pave the way for a contractor of the TSh188 billion Ubungo interchange project to start.

Dr Magufuli gave the direction after his tour of the site soon after arriving in the city from Chato District, Geita.
The demolition will also involve the fencing off of offices of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, which like the Tanesco building, is also located along Morogoro Road in Ubungo.
