President Uhuru Kenyatta made a surprise visit to war-torn Somalia and pledged continued support in what appeared as response to groups calling for withdrawal of Kenyan troops following recent heavy causalities.

He flew to the Horn of Africa nation to attend the inauguration of the newly elected President Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Farmajo’ Mohamed.

“We shall continue working with other AMISOM troops contributing countries as well as the international community to create an enabling environment for the reconstruction, development and sustainable peace in Somalia,” State House said in a statement to newsrooms.

Mr Kenyatta also called on the regional blocs, among them the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, the African Union and the International Community, to support the new administration.
