Moi University plans to shut down another campus in the latest radical move to cut down on costs.

Last year, the institution closed Kericho and Nakuru campuses to comply with a government directive.

“It’s true,  the Senate last week approved the closure of the Kip Plaza and Kiptagich, which are part of Eldoret’s town campus because of the high costs incurred in paying rents...they will eventually be closed down,” said Alfred Wandera, university’s public relations officer on Wednesday.

Students pursuing mainly tourism and hospitality courses at Eldoret town campus would be relocated to Annex and university’s Main Campus.

The School of Agriculture and Natural Resources is to be moved to the Kitale campus and the School of Business and Economics to Eldoret West Campus from the main campus.

Acting vice chancellor Laban Ayiro has been keen to consolidate university resources and boost quality of education at the institution.

“We must make tough decisions on how big the university should be. If we decide to concentrate on just four or five campus - Annex, Main Campus, Nairobi campus, Kitale — what you see in Kenyatta or other universities will be achieved not in 10 years but next three years,” said Prof Ayiro during his first address to the university.
