Rwanda’s economy grew faster in the third quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2016, lifted by an expansion in agriculture and services, the statistics office said on Friday.

The office said third-quarter economic growth came to 8 per cent year-on-year, up from 4 per cent in the second quarter and 5.4 per cent in the same period last year.

It said agriculture grew by 8 per cent, compared with 1 per cent in the third quarter of 2016, while growth in services was 10 per cent versus 7 per cent.

Last month, the International Monetary Fund cut its forecast for Rwanda’s 2017 economic growth to 5.2 percent from 6.2 percent but projected a pick-up in 2018.

The projections are in line with those of the government.
