Kenya declares Thursday public holiday for papal Mass
Tuesday November 24 2015The Government of Kenya has declared 26th November 2015 a Public Holiday and a National Day of Prayer and Reflection during Pope Francis’s visit.
State House made the announce a day after the government spokesman Manoah Esipisu ruled out the possibility of a public holiday and called on employers to provide flexible working hours for their workers.
“It is not envisaged that there will be a public holiday on either of the days and instead, the government would like to encourage the employers to work out flexible hours for their staff to ensure they do join in celebrating the mass,” Mr Manoah had earlier said.
Another public holiday is expected to increase costs for businesses as they forfeit labour while parting with salaries.
