Society Stores on Monday opened its first ever hyper mart in Naivasha as the emerging retail chain embarks on an aggressive expansion plan.
This will be its fourth store in Kenya since the retailer began operations in November 2014.
“This is our first flagship store which started from zero, with all the previous ones being acquisitions,” Trushar Khetia, the founder of Society Stores, said.
The retailer plans to open another branch in Limuru in early 2016, said 28-year old Khetia who is also a finalist in the Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 survey.
Society Stores opened the first store in Thika and two additional branches in Maua and Meru followed in June and October this year.
The owner is looking to tap into the consumer market which he says offers a lot of opportunities to investors.
Society Stores will be locking horns with key players in the sub-sector like Tuskys that has a store in Naivasha.
The lakeside town is a favourite destination for local and international travellers visiting nearby attractions such as Mt Longonot and is also a camping spot.
Mr Khetia is also the founder of Tria Group, a Kenyan outdoor transit advertising company that uses public transport vehicles to market leading consumer goods in Kenya.
Founded in 2013, Tria has annual revenues exceeding $1.3 million (Sh130 million).
