The government will kickoff phased reopening of schools on Monday with Grade 4, Standard 8, and Form Four students reporting back to class after months of shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has released the calendar that shows the learners will be in school for their second term for 11 weeks.

“The Ministry of Education notifies the public that the progressive reopening of schools will commence with Grade 4, Class 8, and Form 4 on Monday, October 12, 2020,” Prof Magoha said in a statement on Tuesday.

The term will run from October 12 to December 23 after which the learners will proceed for a one-week holiday from December 24 to January 1, 2021, and return for term three beginning January 4 to March 19.

The announcement comes just days after the CS told Parliament that the strategy in place is to ensure that the academic year is recovered.

National examinations will take place in March 2021. Standard 8 pupils will sit their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams from March 22 to March 24, while KCSE exams will begin on March 25 and end on April 16.

Learners will be expected to wear face masks, have their body temperatures checked, and observe high levels of hygiene.
