The Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) has signed a partnership for certification of quality practitioners with the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board.

The memorandum of understanding will see Kebs offer training while the Board certifies the practitioners on quality management, regulations, expertise and industry standards.

Kebs said the move will help entrench a culture of quality in the country.

“Although there already exists numerous short training courses on quality… we do not have a professional certification programme for quality practitioners in Africa,” Kebs managing director Bernard Njiraini said.

“This therefore provides an opportunity for Kenya to take an early lead.”

It also targets quality practitioners from sectors such as quality analysts, auditors, inspectors, quality engineers and managers, consultants and trainers.

Failure to meet quality threshold has seen local businesses miss out on procurement opportunities.
