If all motorists could agree to refuel only at stations with the lowest prices, would that force the more expensive stations to follow suit? Jos

No.And it would not save you any money.Your “freedom of choice” is already a cost controller through normal market forces, and though the oil industry as a whole is a multi-trillion business, the margin at the pump is a single figure percentage of extraction, production and distribution cost…and tax.

Many other retail trades price at double and treble their costs – more than 10 times the margin of a fuel station forecourt.

Bear in mind that if you have to use one extra litre of fuel to reach a supplier who charges less, you will almost certainly have spent more than you could save.
