Solar firm d.light settles Sh100 million loans for Covid-hit customers

Solar kit and lighting product dealer d.light has spent Sh100 million to settle monthly repayments for product loans taken by their customers facing Covid-19 pandemic-related hardships.

Speaking Wednesday, d.light chief operating officer Jacob Okoth said the assistance was aimed at easing suffering among their customers as they struggle to find a new economic activity that will enable them service their product loans.

The funds are being forwarded to the suppliers of the energy products, who expect to receive regular payments from the d.light customers.

“Covid-19 has hurt many livelihoods as breadwinners have lost jobs while other have seen their incomes from their businesses slump. That informed our decision to help them settle product loan repayments amounting to Sh100 million,” said Mr Okoth.

D.light, which has since inception in 2016 facilitated purchase of their products through loans totalling more than up Sh1 billion, said they had established service centres across Kenya where they had 3,000 employees handling sales and offering after-sales services to their workers

Mr Okoth spoke when the firm opened its national call centre in Nairobi that will be manned by over 700 customer care personnel to facilitate swift response by after-sales team.

Mr Okoth said d.light has also adopted a franchising model where 600 independent dealers were roped in with to sell their products as well as offer after-sales services to their customers.
