The new facility on the Aga Khan Walk in Nairobi in the city centre, which has been renamed the Nairobi Film Centre, opened its door to movie and theatre-goers Tuesday.

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) confirmed funding the acquisition and oversaw the refurbishment of the 850-seater auditorium, giving Nairobi creatives a home to showcase their talent.

Chief executive Ezekiel Mutua said Tuesday the government chipped in to help defray costs associated with development and marketing of films.

“Nairobi Film Centre is your place of choice for events, especially during this pandemic, where social distancing is mandatory in combating the spread of the (Covid-19) disease.

“As part of our efforts to support the creative industry, we have subsidised our rates to cushion the industry that has taken a beating from the pandemic,” said Dr Mutua.

The biggest cinema auditorium is available for bookings via the KFCB website.
