The dispute surrounding the stalled multimillion-shilling Nandi County office complex has intensified after governor Stephen Sang’s administration maintained that it would not complete the project the former regime initiated.

The Sh130 million project stalled in the run-up to the 2017 General Election.

Deputy governor Yulta Mitei on Friday the county halted the project because the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has investigating integrity issues raised on the status of the building since last year.

Dr Mitei said the devolved unit had established poorly done works on the stalled project, which could result in demolition.

“We are waiting for a final word from the anti-corruption agency before taking next course of action,” he said in Kapsabet in the company of two EACC commissioners Daabar Maalim and Sophia Lepuchirit.

She said the county is seeking Sh220 million to have the stalled project done afresh and completed before the next General Election.

She denied claims that Mr Sang’s administration is frustrating the project former governor Cleophas Lagat initiated.

Dr Mitei said apart from EACC, the National Construction Authority and Public Works ministry have also raised queries on the project.

“We are committed to having our own offices. Since the launch of devolution, the governor and top officials have been operating from national government offices in Kapsabet,” she said.
