Tharaka-Nithi has donated a Sh10 million milk cooler to the Muthiru Dairy Farmers Co-operative Society.
The 5,000-litre cooler is expected to promote milk production in the county as well as ease storage as farmers seek buyers.
Agriculture and Livestock Executive Kenneth Mburia said the county produces a lot of milk which ends up wasted due to a lack of cooling equipment.
“With this machine, farmers will benefit from milk because they can store it until they get good market,” he said.
Mr Mburia added that the county government aims to ensure that no milk is wasted by providing every cooperative society a cooler.
He said value addition for milk, indigenous chicken and bananas had picked up well and farmers have started benefiting.
Trade and Co-operatives executive Tabitha Mbungu said soon the farmers would be able to process and package their milk before selling.
“After ensuring our milk is safe, the next step is adding value by processing and packaging it,” she said.
Ms Mbungu urged the farmers to join the co-operative societies to have a bargaining power when selling their produce.
She added that plans are under way to package most of the agricultural produce before releasing them to the market.
