US technology giant General Electric (GE) has appointed Brenda Mbathi as the new chief executive officer for East Africa.

Until her hiring she was GE’s executive director, government affairs and policy Eastern Africa.

In a statement Friday, the firm’s CEO for Africa Farid Fezoua said the appointment takes effect immediately.

Ms Mbathi is expected to steer the next phase of strategy and growth for GE in East Africa.

“I am very excited to be leading General Electric’s regional growth in East Africa,” she said.

She takes up the reins a few months after its former executive for global operations in Africa Allan Kilavuka left for Jambojet.
