About 400 residents of Rhonda in Nakuru County have benefited from free medical screening sponsored by of Menengai Oil Refineries.

The medical camp which shifts to different locations each month offers checkups by a team of professional consultants.

This month’s camp took place at Kibowen Primary School in Rhonda, where needy people got free check-up, diagnosis and medicine.

Menengai Oil Refineries Head of Marketing Simpson Osiemo said the communities in informal settlements generally do not have access to descent healthcare facilities.

“Members of the Rhonda community underwent free checkups by a team of professional consultants. The specialists provided comprehensive services including HIV testing and counselling, family planning, antenatal services, cancer screening, child welfare and immunisation and health education,” he said.

The specialists further offered the community grappling with poor sanitation counselling sessions on health and hygiene awareness.

During the camp, patients with serious medical conditions were referred for further treatment at hospitals.

Mr Osiemo noted that holding medical care camps regularly in regions where there is limited healthcare has helped save lives.

“Frequent health follow-ups are carried out for expectant mothers and patients who require further treatment,” he said.

Before the end of the medical camp participants received gifts of soap and cooking oil manufactured by Menengai Oil Refineries.

The company set up in 1988 manufactures edible cooking oil and fats and recently diversified into other home products including detergents, baking powder, dishwashing liquid, sponges, scouring pads, stainless steel scourers, scouring powder and milking jelly.
