Electronics manufacturer Samsung has expanded its portfolio in the entry-level smartphone market with the Grand Prime Pro 2018.

The Sh14,499 device is banking on its new camera and design improvements from the earlier versions of the device to make sales.

“The performance of the devices within the segment will enable Samsung to retain market leadership in the midst of growing competition from new entrants in this segment,” said Patricia King’ori, head of marketing, citizenship and public relations at Samsung.

It features a five-inch screen, an 8 megapixel back camera and a 5 megapixel front camera as well as added features including smart Wi-Fi, dual messenger and 16GB internal storage.

The manufacturer has been pushing for tax concessions and safeguards against counterfeit imports as a prerequisite for opening a Kenyan assembly plant.

Tecno, Huawei, Infinix, Wiko and Nokia among other brands have posed stiff competition to Samsung owing to their affordable prices tagged along with quality technology.
Samsung has had to find innovative ways to attract more customers since the phone manufacturer has not been able to cut prices.

Many Kenyans are attracted to low priced quality phones.
