An international meeting bringing together 300 delegates from 195 countries has ended at Kenya’s Leisure Lodge Resort in Diani. The three-day inter-regional meeting of national commissions for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) was jointly organised with Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM).

The global meet, which was opened by Education secretary Amina Mohamed, looked into contributions made by national commissions to UNESCO’s Strategic Transformation, Relevance, Visibility and Outreach programme.

Participants also discussed how individual national commissions can align their programmes with their peers towards implementation of Agenda 2030 and of UNESCO’s programme.

Leisure Lodge also provided boardrooms used by separate groups drawn from Africa, Arab states, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America, Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss modalities for regional and inter-regional interaction between national commissions.

KNATCOM acting chairman Wenslas Ong’ayo said the resort had shown ability to host international meets due to its conference facilities and staff ability to cater for large delegations. The lodge is located35 kilometres from Mombasa.
