About 40 per cent of Kenyans rely on unsafe water sources such as ponds, shallow wells and rivers according to a report by the Water Organization.
Majority of those affected live in rural areas and urban slums.
According to the report, only nine out of the 55 public water service providers have continuous water supply. The report further indicates that approximately 19 million lacked access to safe drinking water by the end of 2015.
The report also notes that only 25 per cent of water in Kenya is piped and about 0.7 per cent of Kenyans collect rain water.
Kenya has an estimated 46 million people according to the report.
