Former Constitutional Implementation Committee chairman, Charles Nyachae, was sworn-in before regional leaders at a summit in Kampala, Uganda today.

He had been nominated to the post by president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mr Nyachae campaigned for Mr Kenyatta and his Jubilee Party in Gusii region during the August 8 General Election and October 26 repeat presidential election.

Jubilee had nominated him to the East African Legislative Assembly but he did not make it.

The EACJ is one of the organs of the East African Community (EAC) established under Article 9 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the EAC.

Its main purpose is to ensure adherence to law in the interpretation and application of and compliance with the Treaty.

Mr Nyachae, running on Jubilee ticket, lost the Kisii senatorial seat to Prof Sam Ongeri of ODM in the August poll, and his appointment may largely be seen as a reward by Jubilee.

The former CIC boss will formally take office July 1, 2018.
