Harvard University will from next year give full scholarships to two qualified students in honour of Kenya’s fallen scholar Calestous Juma who used to teach at the prestigious institution in the United States.

The scholarships will be given under Equity Group Foundation’s Wings to Fly programme — a partnership with MasterCard Foundation, which sponsors bright but poor students through secondary and university education.

Prof Juma was until his death on December 15 the faculty chair of the Innovation for Economic Development Executive Programme and director of Science, Technology and Globalisation Project at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Previously, the bank and its partners paid for fees and other expenses for its students who were admitted to Harvard.

In the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results, released on December 20, nine Wings to Fly students scored straight As.
