Kobia wants varsity bridging course for NYS

The government is pushing for introduction of a university bridging course launched by the Kenya Accountants and Secretary National Examinations Board (Kasneb) to the National Youth Service (NYS) recruits.
Youth and Gender secretary Prof Margaret Kobia Friday said the Certificate in Accounting and Management Skills (CAMS) course, is critical for professional management of enterprises.

“This particular course can be tied with National Youth Service (NYS) or Technical Vocation Education and Training Institutions (TIVETs) so that it can be of benefit to the graduates,” said Prof Kobia, during the launch of the course in Nairobi.

Open eyes

“Let’s open our eyes to see who else might require this course, and how we can build on the existing government programmes,” said Prof Kobia.

The CS said the Treasury has expressed its willingness to incorporate the CAMS qualification within its training programmes for purposes of career entry and promotion.

She said the course will fill a critical gap and offer an opportunity to the youth who are unable to meet the minimum entry requirements to advance their professional and academic aspirations.
